The Canadian Event Awards are a dynamic celebration honouring the diversity and innovative spirit of Canada’s event industry. With an emphasis on innovation and excellence, the Awards feature diverse categories that reflect the full spectrum of the industry’s expertise. for 2024, we’ve streamlined the entry process, making it more accessible and efficient for participants to display their exceptional work

There are five sections below listing the award categories. Click on the arrows beside each category below to reveal its description and read the judging criteria.

Remember all events or projects must have taken place within the 2023 calendar year with the exception of NYE events which took place on December 31, 2022. These are also eligible. You may register your events at any time, and you have until March 7, 2024, to complete and submit your entry. Good luck, and we can’t wait to see you take your place in the spotlight.

This category honours events designed and executed for corporations with budgets under $150,000 (excluding taxes). A corporate event aims to meet specific business goals such as building relationships, launching new products/services, team building, reinforcing brand identity, and achieving positive exposure.

Category Description:

A successful conference is characterized by well-planned and executed logistics, engaging and informative presentations, opportunities for networking and collaboration, and a positive overall attendee experience. The conference should effectively communicate its core message, provide valuable insights and knowledge to attendees and foster a sense of community among participants.

It recognizes an educational organization’s efforts and creativity in designing and hosting exceptional events that contribute positively to their communities, foster learning experiences, showcase innovation and advance institutional strategic goals.

Judging Criteria:

Judging will focus on the strategic alignment with institutional goals, community engagement, creativity and innovation, marketing effectiveness, logistical efficiency, measurable outcomes, design aesthetics, sustainability initiatives, and efforts to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Share your institution’s success stories and execution skills that left a lasting impression on attendees.

Recognizing the efforts of corporate teams and nonprofit boards, this award is for those who have excelled in creating memorable and impactful experiences, setting a high standard in event management.

Judging Criteria:

For this category, we will evaluate the effectiveness of logistics, level of innovation, design aesthetics, sustainability practices, accessibility measures, budget management, technology integration (if applicable), entertainment quality (if applicable), the ‘wow’ factor, and catering excellence (if applicable). Submissions should demonstrate how creative solutions, efficient logistics, and effective budget management have significantly contributed to the success of the event

Successful events planned by associations and committees are characterized by collaboration among members, with a clear understanding of the objectives and goals of the event. This planning process brings together diverse groups of people, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

Judging will focus on logistics, innovation, attendee engagement, outcomes, design, aesthetics, sustainability, accessibility, overall entertainment value, collaboration among members. Elements like catering and decor will be assessed if applicable. Showcase how collaboration was crucial to your event’s success and its positive impact on your member community.

A product launch is an event that marks the introduction of a new brand, product, or service to the market. The event typically showcases the product’s features, benefits and unique aspects, and may also involve demonstrations, interactive experiences and media coverage.

Judging Criteria:

Judges will focus on the event strategy, logistics, technology integration (if applicable), brand alignment, engagement, storytelling, media reach, outcome, metrics, accessibility, overall entertainment value and innovation. Provide specific examples and anecdotes to illustrate your event’s excellence in these areas.

Experiential Marketing events are dynamic and interactive forms of event marketing or on-ground marketing initiatives. These events are designed to engage consumers directly, shaping their buying decisions and involving them actively in the brand’s growth story. They typically create immersive experiences that not only showcase the brand’s values and products but also foster a deeper, more memorable connection between the brand and its audience. This category celebrates events that excel in creativity, consumer involvement, and effective brand messaging.

 Judging Criteria:

Experiential marketing events will be evaluated based on strategy, logistics, engagement, brand profiling, storytelling, media reach, outcome metrics, accessibility, and overall entertainment value. Share how your event effectively engaged the audience, profiled the brand, and leveraged storytelling techniques to create a compelling experience.

In this category, we will assess the event’s impact on the community, logistical proficiency, creative solutions, volunteer/staff dedication, goal attainment, aesthetics, sustainability, inclusivity, catering excellence (if applicable), budgetary usage and entertainment value. Social Events | Creative & Design | Catering | Weddings

This category celebrates excellent floral design that effectively communicates an intended theme, style, or concept through using flowers, foliage, and other natural or artificial materials. A fabulous floral design showcases the designer’s artistic skills, attention to detail, and technical abilities and is visually appealing, creative, and balanced in colour, texture, and form. 

Judging Criteria:

In this category, we will evaluate the logistics involved in planning and executing the design, the degree of innovation demonstrated in overcoming challenges, the originality and uniqueness of the design, visual appeal, complexity, sustainability practices, and the “WOW factor” that leaves a lasting impression. Participants are encouraged to provide clear images and, optionally, videos to convey the design’s impact, while budget details are not required.

Creative table design plays a crucial role in elevating the overall event experience. It enhances the visual appeal, setting the ambiance and ensuring guest comfort and satisfaction.

This category examines the logistics required to conceptualize and execute the design, the level of innovation and creativity used to address challenges, originality in design, the use of colour, texture, and form, as well as its visual appeal, composition, balance, and proportion within its surroundings. Judges also assess sustainability practices, accessibility and inclusivity efforts, design complexity, presentation, and the “WOW factor” that sets the design apart. Participants are encouraged to focus on their creativity and attention to detail; good, clear images are essential to convey the design’s visual impact and innovation.

Well-executed decor and design can contribute to the event’s success by making guests feel more comfortable and setting the tone for the experience. Great decor should have a cohesive theme, an appropriate colour scheme, and well-placed elements that enhance the overall look and feel of the event space. This category requires the budget to be under $50,000 (before taxes) and not include sponsored features if they exceed the budget limit. 

Judging Criteria:

In this category, we will evaluate the logistical aspects of planning and executing the design, the innovative and creative elements employed to tackle challenges, originality, use of colour, visual appeal, composition, and proportion. Additionally, sustainability practices, accessibility and inclusivity considerations, thematic integration, design complexity, the role of lighting (if applicable), effective budget allocation, and the “WOW factor” that leaves a lasting impression on attendees are key criteria. Participants are encouraged to provide clear images, optional videos for visual context, and a detailed budget breakdown to showcase their creative and budgetary prowess.

These displays are portable brand expressions, are the first point of contact between the company and potential clients or customers, and set the tone for future interactions. 

Judging Criteria:

In this category, we will evaluate the effectiveness of your trade show booth or pavilion design based on several key criteria. These include the innovative and creative elements you employed to capture attendees’ attention, the visual appeal of your plan, and how well your design communicated your brand and aligned with the event’s theme. We’ll also consider the practicality and functionality of your booth, the integration of sustainable practices, efforts to ensure accessibility and inclusivity, your attention to detail, and how effectively your design encouraged attendee engagement and left a memorable impression. Additionally, we’ll assess the overall impact of your booth on the trade show’s success. Participants are encouraged to provide clear images, optional videos for visual context, and a detailed budget breakdown to showcase their creative and budgetary prowess.

This category celebrates excellent wedding design and the planners creativity, attention to detail and the ability to bring the couple’s vision to life. Great wedding design showcases the couple’s personality, interests, and style while meeting their objectives and incorporating their desired elements. 

Judging Criteria:

Judges will assess the logistical aspects of planning and executing the wedding creative design, the innovative and creative elements employed to tackle challenges, originality, use of colour, visual appeal and overall design. Additionally, sustainability practices, accessibility and inclusivity considerations, thematic integration, design complexity, the role of lighting (if applicable), effective budget allocation, and the “WOW factor” that leaves a lasting impression on attendees are key criteria. Judges will also consider whether personal elements, such as unique traditions or cultural customs, were incorporated into the wedding and the effectiveness of creative elements in telling the couple’s love story or narrative. Participants are encouraged to provide clear images and optional videos for visual context, highlighting their creative solutions, innovative ideas, and attention to detail that create a one-of-a-kind experience for the couple and guests.

Category Description:

This is a food and design category. Creative Food Presentation refers to the artistic display of food and drinks in a visually appealing manner. Judges will not consider decor unless it supports the food presentation. The entrant must be the caterer, not the planner unless they are the same. Do not include the overall room design in the application. Entry may be for plated or buffet designs. 

Judging Criteria:

In this category, we will assess the creativity in the artistic display of food and drinks, clever use of plating, staging and props if used to enhance visual appeal. We will also assess practicality, ensuring ease of service, visually appealing and cohesive design, effective showcasing of food items, efficient logistical planning and execution, accessibility for all guests, and the overall wow factor with a unique concept. Participants are encouraged to provide clear images and optional videos to showcase their innovative food presentation.

Category Description:

The catering should have reflected the couple’s personality and style. The entrant must be responsible for the actual catering. Caterers can enter this category jointly with event planners if they intend to include room decor and other event elements in the entry. The submission should include plating, design, table decor (if applicable), food service, menus, floor plans, and scheduling. The judges will consider the set if it enhances the food presentation.

Judging Criteria:

For the Best Catering For a Wedding category, we will evaluate menu selection and creativity, visual appeal of food presentation and table settings, attention to detail in execution, complexity of catering and event management, incorporation of event theme into food presentation, accessibility for all guests, sustainability practices, effective logistics, creativity in food service, and diversity and inclusivity.
