It’s an outstanding example of a brand giving back to the community, creating fans and generating attention all at the same time.
Working closely with The City of Belleville, the team researched several outdoor areas in the city that needed a refresh before landing on Kiwanis Skatepark. The site, located within Riverside Park, had been neglected throughout the pandemic.
The extensive clean-up included:
- Removing years of graffiti.
- Adding a fresh coat of paint in Mentos blue.
- Updating park features, including several flat rails, handrails, banks, and stairs.
- Add two basketball courts on either end of the park.
The park officially reopened in September 2021 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by City Council members, local media, and community members. To make the grand opening extra special, pro skateboarder Adam Hopkins, Canadian Olympian Annie Guglia, OLY, and 11-year-old skateboarding protege Fay DeFazio were onsite completing tricks and playing BaSkateBowl together.
After enjoying the show, a crowd of local school children and their parents gathered throughout the morning and were given signed basketballs, skateboard decks, and Mentos.
Custom flags were created to provide extra branding for opening ceremonies. At the same time, Mentos Ambassadors were onsite in their uniforms to cheer skateboarders on, deliver key messaging, and hand out Mentos Gum.
Mix97 was onsite all day promoting the new Skatepark and running a contest, giving listeners a chance to make it down to the Skatepark to win their own custom skateboard deck.
The event and initiative were a huge success, with over 14,307,578 impressions and a skatepark for the youth of Belleville to enjoy for years to come.
Congrats to everyone who helped make this event a great success, & good luck at the Canadian Event Awards Gala from Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex on Sept 28, 2022.
